Senior Software Engineer

Bayer is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Digital Hub Warsaw. The role involves full stack development in a fast-paced Pharma R&D environment, driving architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and leveraging AI-assisted tools. The ideal candidate has strong programming skills, experience with cloud platforms, and a background in data engineering or science.

• Design, develop, and continuously deploy complex technical solutions (full stack) in a fast-moving, regulated Pharma R&D environment.
• Drive architectural decisions for scalable systems and contribute hands-on development while working in cross-functional teams with IT and R&D experts (biology, chemistry, pharmacology).
• Define and execute a technical vision for our R&D application landscape with a focus on business value.
• Identify technical risks and gaps, show solution approaches, and guide the team towards robust solutions.
• Mentor engineers and support technical growth across teams.
• Introduce new technologies, improve engineering workflows, and challenge existing patterns.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve code quality and delivery speed.
• Combine technical expertise with scientific understanding (e.g., computational biology or computational chemistry).

• Excellent university degree in Computer Science (or equivalent natural science degree, e.g., computational biologist/chemist/…).
• 5–8+ years of professional experience with expert-level skills in at least two modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Kotlin, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript).
• Experience with backend development and/or frontend frameworks such as React.js.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), containerization, and serverless architecture.
• Hands-on expertise in data engineering and/or data science.
• Deep understanding of Agile, CI/CD, and automated testing.
• Comfortable making technical decisions in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Proven experience leading engineering initiatives and developing others.
• As a plus: experience working with natural scientists and in regulated environments (e.g., GxP)
