Front End Engineer (React.js, UX)

Motional is a driverless technology company hiring a Staff Front End Engineer to lead web visualization tools using React, TypeScript, and Vue. The role offers hybrid or remote work and focuses on high-performance UI for autonomous vehicle systems.

• Lead the development and implementation of web visualization tools used by internal teams
• Establish and uphold cross-team standards and best practices for frontend development
• Architect and scale a modern frontend ecosystem utilizing React, TypeScript, and Vue.js
• Collaborate closely with ML, UX, data services, and data annotation teams to ensure tooling aligns with workflow needs
• Design and develop mission-critical UI systems for complex, data-heavy workflows
• Drive performance optimization, scalability, and maintainability of frontend applications
• Ship features rapidly and iterate based on user feedback in a product-driven environment
• Mentor junior engineers and delegate tasks as necessary to foster team growth
• Create comprehensive technical documentation and design specifications
• Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to identify requirements and deliver effective solutions

• Proven expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern frontend architecture
• Proficiency in Vue.js
• Strong understanding of UX/UI design principles and usability best practices
• Experience building scalable and high-performance web applications
• Ability to work independently with high ownership and autonomy
• Excellent interpersonal and mentorship skills
• Strong technical documentation and design habits
• Experience collaborating directly with customers to identify needs and develop solutions
• Experience with backend systems such as Node.js or Python (preferred, not required)
• Familiarity with project management methodologies and agile practices (bonus)
• Interest or experience in 3D visualization or game development (bonus)
• Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing priorities
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; advanced degrees preferred

• Competitive salary within the range of $172,000 to $229,000 USD
