Junior Software Engineer | Payment (m/w/d)

We are looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join our Payment team, working on microservices with Java and Spring Boot, and frontend with React and TypeScript. The role can be based in Hamburg or fully remote within Germany. You will collaborate with experienced colleagues, implement payment processing features, and take increasing responsibility.

• Implement and maintain microservices for the Payment domain using Java, Spring Boot, Gradle, and Kubernetes.
• Work in the backend with relational and NoSQL databases and in the frontend with React, TypeScript, and Material UI to process complex payment processes.
• Follow Clean Code principles for extensibility and readability, especially where money flows and state changes require precision.
• Through tracking, alerts, and monitoring, find technical problems before they become visible to customers, e.g., when processing payment orders, incoming settlements, or webhook calls fails.
• Support users and customer support with technical issues and find pragmatic solutions together.
• Ensure high quality with automated tests at relevant test levels for sustainable product development.
• Handle operation of platform services in Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS clouds in close collaboration with DevOps.

• Enjoy developing software, want to apply knowledge in practice, and develop professionally and personally.
• Interest in digital payment and finance processes, willingness to learn new topics.
• Not required to be a finance expert; curiosity and learning readiness are key.
• First professional experience in software development and at least solid Java knowledge; experience with Spring Boot and other technologies from our tech stack is a plus.
• First exposure to payment, fintech, or integration environment helpful; experience with payment providers like Adyen or Stripe is a plus.
• Interest in clean system architectures, Domain-Driven Design, microservices, and hexagonal architecture; ideally practical experience.
• Inquisitive and willing to question existing code for maintainable solutions.
• Use of modern AI tools as sparring partner in development; willingness to try AI-based approaches.
• Fluent German (min. B2) and good English.
