Platform Engineer – Utrecht

As a platform engineer, you build and manage the Kubernetes platform on our trains, ensuring that systems for passenger information and monitoring remain reliable. You will work in a small, dedicated team having a significant impact on technology and methods while exploring new technologies and growing within NS.

• Manage and operate k3s clusters on embedded train hardware across our fleet.
• Set up and manage clusters via Rancher and Fleet (GitOps methodology).
• Build and maintain CI/CD workflows in Azure Pipelines within Azure DevOps.
• Write and maintain Bash scripts on Alpine Linux for automation and operational tooling.
• Monitor the health of the platform with Grafana and preemptively identify and solve issues.
• Onboard external parties onto our platform and integrate their systems with NS's.
• Investigate production incidents to determine whether an issue affects one train or the entire fleet and propose structural solutions.

• 2 to 5 years of experience in a platform, infrastructure, or DevOps role.
• Good knowledge of Kubernetes and experience managing clusters.
• Experience with a GitOps approach and tools, such as Fleet, Argo CD, or similar.
• Comfortable in a Linux environment; experience with Alpine Linux is a plus.
• HBO work and thinking level.
• Experience or strong motivation to work with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure Pipelines) and observability tools (e.g., Grafana or Prometheus).

• A salary between € 3,743 and € 6,491 gross per month (based on a 36-hour work week).
