Breeding & Genetics Officer

Stone Axe Pastoral is seeking a Breeding & Genetics Officer to drive Wagyu breeding programs, combining hands-on cattle work with genetic analysis. The role involves supporting joining, pregnancy testing, weaning, and genetic evaluations across a large-scale Wagyu supply chain.

• Supporting joining, pregnancy testing, calving, weaning and breeder management programs
• Maintaining accurate herd, breeding and genetic records
• Assisting with sire and breeder selection, replacement planning and culling decisions
• Analysing performance and genetic data to support business decisions
• Working closely with property managers, veterinarians, nutritionists and genetics providers
• Contributing to continuous improvement in breeding protocols and data collection standards
• Ensuring strong animal welfare, biosecurity and safety outcomes

• Experience in commercial cattle breeding operations
• Knowledge of joining, pregnancy testing, weaning and genetic evaluation
• Strong cattle handling skills and confidence working in livestock environments
• Excellent attention to detail and data management capability
• A willingness to travel extensively across regional and remote properties
• A passion for genetic improvement and herd performance outcomes
• Wagyu or premium beef breeding experience (highly regarded)
• BREEDPLAN experience (highly regarded)
• Exposure to feedlot operations (highly regarded)
• Strong Excel and Power BI skills (highly regarded)
