SENIOR PHP ENGINEER

About the Position

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior PHP Engineer for a full-time position in Ukraine. Our client provides financial institutions with tailored solutions for every stage of the lending and servicing lifecycle.

Responsibilities14

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications using PHP (CakePHP) within a LAMP stack environment.
• Work on both backend and frontend components, contributing to features using JavaScript (jQuery, React).
• Build and support backend services using Node.js where applicable.
• Maintain, enhance, and modernize legacy systems to ensure stability and performance in production environments.
• Design and optimize MySQL databases, including schema design, query tuning, and performance improvements.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and integrate with third-party services.
• Deploy, monitor, and maintain applications in AWS environments (EC2, RDS, S3, etc.).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, resolve bugs, and ensure system reliability.
• Participate in code reviews, follow Git workflows, and help maintain high code quality.
• Work with tools such as Jira and Bitbucket to manage tasks, track progress, and collaborate effectively.
• Contribute to improving system architecture, including refactoring and modernizing monolithic applications.
• Support CI/CD processes and help improve deployment pipelines.
• Ensure application performance, scalability, and security best practices are followed.
• Work effectively in a remote, distributed team environment, communicating clearly and proactively.

Requirements9

• 5+ years of experience in software development, building and maintaining production web applications.
• Strong experience in backend with PHP and frameworks such as CakePHP.
• Knowledge of the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).
• Understanding of front-end development using JavaScript, including jQuery and React.
• Understanding of building or supporting backend services with Node.js.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL, including schema design and query optimization.
• Experience deploying and maintaining applications in AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, or similar).
• Knowledge of Git workflows (branching, pull requests, code reviews).
• Experience with Jira and Bitbucket.
