About the Position
DroneControl is seeking a Senior UAV Systems Engineer to own technical integration of complex autonomous UAV systems, working with flight controllers, embedded computers, sensors, and communication links. The role requires hands-on experience with ArduPilot, PX4, MAVLink, and C/C++/Python, and involves integrating systems from simulation to flight testing.
Responsibilities
- Design onboard UAV system architecture
- Integrate flight controllers, onboard computers, EO/thermal cameras, and other sensors
- Integrate autonomous navigation, Computer Vision, and guidance software with the flight controller
- Work with ArduPilot and/or PX4, MAVLink, telemetry, and mission logic
- Develop embedded software in C/C++ and Python for Linux / Embedded Linux and microcontrollers
- Integrate IMUs, GNSS receivers, magnetometers, barometers, cameras, and other navigation sensors
- Work with UART, CAN, I2C, SPI, USB, Ethernet, and other embedded interfaces
- Integrate NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi, and similar ARM/Linux platforms
- Work with camera interfaces, video pipelines, and streaming
- Customize and integrate QGroundControl and Mission Planner
- Develop diagnostic and service tools
- Analyze telemetry and flight logs and troubleshoot issues across software, electronics, sensors, communications, and configuration
- Prepare and conduct bench, SITL/HITL, and flight testing
- Select components and make system-architecture decisions
Requirements
- Senior-level hands-on experience developing and integrating embedded, robotic, or UAV systems
- Real practical experience working with UAVs
- Deep understanding of UAV architecture and flight-controller principles
- Hands-on experience with ArduPilot and/or PX4
- Understanding of flight modes, navigation, attitude/position control, mission execution, failsafe logic, sensor calibration, and state estimation
- Hands-on MAVLink experience
- Demonstrably strong C/C++ skills
- Demonstrably strong Python skills
- Linux / Embedded Linux
- Hands-on experience with microcontrollers and embedded computers / SBCs
- Experience integrating electro-optical cameras and working with thermal cameras or other imaging sensors
- Understanding of digital and analog electronics
- Ability to read schematics and datasheets
- Ability to independently design relatively simple additional digital or analog circuitry at schematic level when required
- Hands-on hardware debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and serial/CAN interface tools
- Practical experience with QGroundControl and/or Mission Planner
- Willingness and ability to work directly with hardware and participate in field and flight testing
