Mid/Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js, TypeScript) (m/f/x)

We are seeking a talented backend engineer to join our growing engineering team in Berlin. The role involves working on backend services, APIs, and partner integrations that power our customer journeys. You will contribute to scalable architecture and maintain high-quality code.

• Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable backend services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Develop and maintain robust APIs and integrations with external tools, partner systems, and third-party services.
• Explore, integrate, and build with AI capabilities including LLMs and third-party AI services.
• Design and optimize relational data models and queries in SQL databases (with MongoDB where appropriate).
• Contribute to system architecture and design for scalable, maintainable backend solutions.
• Stay up-to-date with trends in software engineering and best practices, including modern AI-assisted development tools.
• Conduct code reviews, identify areas for improvement, and provide recommendations for optimization and refactoring.
• Write high-quality, maintainable, testable and scalable TypeScript code.
• Ensure code is well-organized, documented, and easy to understand.
• Guide and mentor junior developers, promoting code quality and best practices.

• 4+ years of professional experience in software development, with 3+ years building backend services using TypeScript, Node.js and related technologies such as Express.
• Strong understanding of relational (SQL) databases, including data modeling and query optimization, with working knowledge of NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
• Solid experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs and integrating with external tools, partner systems, and third-party services.
• Experience using testing tools like Jest and ideally Selenium or Cypress.
• Solid knowledge of software architecture principles and development best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug complex issues and optimize code performance.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
• Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and technologies.
• Experience working in a startup, especially in an agile team environment.
• Nice to have: Experience with frontend development using TypeScript and React (preferred), Vue or Angular.
• Nice to have: Hands-on experience building with AI – integrating LLMs or AI services into products.
