Frontend Software Engineer (TypeScript, React)

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Frontend, to lead the front-end technical strategy for Coinbase Advanced, a premium trading platform. The role involves owning performance, reliability, and scalability of web and mobile trading clients, mentoring senior engineers, and driving technical initiatives.

• Own and define the front-end technical roadmap for Coinbase Advanced, establishing architecture decisions that ensure a reliable and scalable trading platform across web and mobile platforms.
• Drive measurable performance improvements by optimizing rendering processes, network utilization, and state management to deliver a low-latency trading experience.
• Lead complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives from conception to deployment, setting high standards for code quality, system design, and engineering rigor.
• Mentor and develop senior engineers, fostering technical growth, decision-making capabilities, and adherence to best practices within the team.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to translate business priorities into technical plans and deliver high-impact features on schedule.
• Shape front-end engineering practices and establish scalable patterns and conventions that enhance development velocity and maintainability as the team grows.

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong background in modern front-end frameworks such as React, React Native, or equivalent technologies.
• Extensive experience optimizing complex UI systems for high performance, including rendering, network efficiency, and state management at scale.
• Proven track record leading technical strategy and architecture decisions for a product area, including trade-off analysis and cross-team alignment.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and elevating engineering standards through technical guidance and best practices.
• Familiarity with high-availability, low-latency systems, particularly in trading platforms, financial systems, or real-time data applications.
• Strong understanding of mobile development environments and cross-platform deployment strategies.
• Ability to utilize generative AI responsibly, maintaining oversight to improve workflows, reduce costs, and enhance quality.
