What is ranking?

Ranking is the process by which a search engine evaluates and orders pages in search results by relevance to the user's query.

How ranking works:

  1. After crawling and indexing, the page enters the index.
  2. When a user enters a query, the system:
  • finds matching pages in the index,
  • evaluates them by hundreds of factors,
  • sorts them by usefulness and quality.

What affects ranking:

  • Keywords in titles, text, URL
  • Content quality (uniqueness, completeness, structure)
  • Usability (loading speed, responsiveness, design)
  • User behavior (time on page, clicks, return visits)
  • Backlinks (which sites link to this page)
  • Technical parameters (errors, security, mobile-friendliness)
  • E-E-A-T - expertise, authoritativeness, trustworthiness, experience

Summary: Ranking is what decides whether your site will be on the first page or lost on the tenth. It is the core of search results.
